Education and Training
 
Volunteer opportunities are available in The Education & Training Department for those who are passionate about adult literacy and desire to help new Americans reach their fullest potential academically, economically, and socially in Minnesota. This is a one day a week (minimum of 16 weeks) position responsible for assisting a lead teacher in any of the classes in the Education & Training Department. The department serves beginning to advance ESL students learning English as a second language. Primary responsibilities include:
  • Assist teachers in either the Functional Work English or Civics classes
  • Commit to Teaching Assistant. position for a minimum of one day a week, for 16 weeks
  • Work cooperatively with lead teacher and other staff
  • Complete necessary evaluation forms and submit them to lead instructor in a timely manner

Hmong Youth Pride
 
Be a volunteer tutor with HAP’s Hmong Youth Pride program! Hmong Youth Pride (HYP) is an after-school enrichment program for students in grades 3-8. This program is offered in collaboration with North End Elementary, Jackson Magnet Elementary, Cleveland Middle School and Community School of Excellence. Volunteer tutors with the HYP program:
  • Work only 2-4 hours per week
  • Provide one-on-one homework assistance to students
  • Help teach children about Hmong culture and traditions
  • Provide students with a positive role model
  • Gain work experience and leadership skills
  • Share knowledge and experience with participating youths
  • Go on FUN field trips
