HAP Partner of the Month - December 2009
Award Staffing
Award Staffing is one of the largest locally owned light industrial and skilled industrial staffing companies in the Twin Cities and has been supplying companies with quality workers for over twenty years. Award has built a reputation among Twin Cities job-seekers for providing good quality, long-term temporary or temporary-to-hire positions.
Award Staffing has shown a consistent interest in reaching out to Twin Cities refugee and immigrant communities, including the Hmong and Karen communities in the East Side and Frogtown neighborhoods of
Saint Paul. Award has made a point of listening to Hmong American Partnership and being flexible to meet the needs of HAP’s program participants. When HAP suggested that the key to successful operations at a food packaging plant was hiring a Hmong bilingual supervisor, Award used HAP’s help to recruit this supervisor and the Hmong line workers. Award recruiters turn to HAP first when employment opportunities arise that are a good fit for our participants.
Award Staffing has allowed HAP job-seekers to apply and receive orientation in special mass appointments with interpreters for Karen and Hmong. Award is always accommodating to HAP job applicants when they apply at Award’s
Bloomington offices. “Award takes the time to match my program participants’ skills to the jobs that suit them best,” HAP Minneapolis Case Manager Choua Yang says. “I really appreciate the results I get working with them.” Award has also conducted private hiring fairs at HAP’s main office for the convenience of HAP’s participants in the Saint Paul East Side neighborhoods.
Since 2008, Award Staffing has hired dozens of Hmong American Partnership’s program participants as long-term temporary workers. Award provides employment opportunities to new refugees for what is often their first American wage-labor job. The work experience, skills-improvement, self-confidence, and resume-building skills the refugees gain from these jobs are fundamental to success in their new country.
Award Staffing is not only a strong supporter of HAP’s job-seekers. Three recruiters and managers from Award’s corporate office recently showed their support of HAP by attending our 2009 “Empowering the Community” fundraising gala.
Hmong American Partnership appreciates the opportunity to work with such an excellent partner as Award Staffing.
