FEATURED PARTNER - The American Indian Family Center

The American Indian Family Center, located on Saint Paul’s East Side, started as an idea in 1994, began offering services in 1997, and grew until it achieved permanent 501(c)(3) non-profit status in 2001.

The AIFC provides services under three program areas- Healing Generation Mental Health Services, Family Support Services and Anukey Employment Support Services.Healing Generations Mental Health Services include individual and group mental health therapy, family counseling, chemical dependency prevention, & recovery services, Family Support Services include prevention/intervention services regarding child neglect and abuse, parenting support, healthy baby training & counseling, and youth work.Anukey Employment Support Services include one-on-one employment counseling, development of job readiness skills, and job club support.

In all programming, the AIFC views each program participant holistically, in the philosophy of the medicine wheel, which teaches that the four parts of each human being - physical, spiritual, emotional and intellectual- are equally important. Thus interventions for any one area must include an assessment of the other areas. All AIFC programming focuses on bringing traditional values to bear on the challenges facing American Indian families today.

The AIFC has long collaborated in formal and informal ways with partner agencies for the benefit of its program participants and the community in general. The organization continues this tradition as it works together with Hmong American Partnership.

The AIFC and HAP have been members of the East Side Prosperity Campaign since 2008. As of March 1st of this year the AIFC was named as the coordinating agency for the Prosperity Campaign. Through the Prosperity Campaign AIFC Executive Director Kevin Martineau and HAP Executive Director Bao Vang are working together on the development of an East Side green energy social enterprise and have successfully collaborated on job development efforts to ensure their participants and community members have access to job opportunities. Recently HAP and the AIFC have been awarded a Ramsey County YouthLEAD contract to provide important services to young people.
