HAP Partner of the Month - January 2010

Travelers Foundation

Travelers Foundation has been a strong and consistent supporter of HAP’s youth programs for more than a decade. Thanks to the support of Travelers Foundation, thousands of at-risk Hmong youths have had access to high-quality, culturally-appropriate personal development and academic enrichment programs. Over the years, Travelers has generously donated more than $400,000 since 1994 to HAP.

In 2008, Travelers Foundation announced a shift to a new, highly-focused funding priority: to support programs to improve academic and career success for underrepresented youth in Saint Paul, Minnesota and Hartford, Connecticut. The new priority was chosen after a thoughtful strategic planning process, through which feedback was gathered from local nonprofit organizations, schools, and other community partners.

The new focus has positioned the Foundation to direct their funding to have the greatest positive impact in the communities where Travelers does business. Travelers is the third-largest writer of commercial U.S. property casualty insurance and the second-largest writer of U.S. personal insurance through independent agents. For more than 150 years, Travelers has collaborated with community-based nonprofit organizations to increase quality of life for underrepresented populations.

HAP knows from experience that Travelers Foundation has a genuine interest in the impact of their grants. The Foundation currently funds Hmong Youth Pride, HAP’s after-school enrichment program. In 2009, a Travelers Foundation representative took the time to visit HAP to see Hmong Youth Pride in action, meet student participants, and learn first-hand about the needs and concerns of Hmong youth in Saint Paul.

HAP is committed to working with Travelers Foundation to provide underrepresented Hmong youth in Saint Paul with the support they need to succeed, and we are grateful for the generous financial support of Travelers Foundation.

HAP is honored to recognize Travelers Foundation as a long-time partner.
