Steps to Financial Freedom: Xia's Story
Xia, devoted father of an exuberant 2-year old, loves working with metal. He was certain he had a future doing sheet metal work. Help from HAP allowed Xia to set realistic goals and identify the training steps he needed to earn his sheet metal certification from St. Paul College and enter Local Union #10 of the Sheet Metal Worker's International Association. Juggling full time courses and family obligations wasn't always easy for Xia but, with encouragement, childcare assistance and ongoing support from his HAP counselor, Xia steadily and successfully completed all of the steps needed to get certified.
Xia is now employed as a sheet metal worker, earning over $20 per hour fabricating sheet metal supplies for the construction industry. His company is providing him and his family with medical and dental coverage. He has now left the MFIP system of assistance behind. HAP is proud to tell his story.
