Service Leaders of Tomorrow (SLOT)

Service Leaders of Tomorrow is an extension of the HYP program, offered specifically to provide development and leadership opportunities to Hmong youths, age 15 to 21.  SLOT’s goals are:

·    Give an opportunity to the teens to discuss teen issues in a safe environment

·    Help them build leadership skills by providing them with the necessary tools

·    Provide youths with opportunities to learn about issues affecting their community and work together to find solutions.

·    Provide teens with weekly recreational activities

·    Use community service projects to share with the community, and

·    Provide diverse experiences to facilitate their growth

Youth also get a chance to partner with other community organizations and work directly with them to get hands –on approach to learning and servicing.  Field trips to sites help youth understand the overall impact of an issue.

Monthly outings to assist youths with team building development occur on the second of each month.

The group meets regularly every Wednesday from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. and then engage in active recreational time after group.  The recreational activities are aimed at engaging youth in sharpening their social skills.
