Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
?xml:namespace>
- What is HmoobTeen? HmoobTeen is a magazine by and for Hmong teens. HmoobTeen is a youth program at the Hmong American Partnership (HAP).
?xml:namespace>
- What are HmoobTeen’s goals? HmoobTeen has two major goals:
- To diminish the sense of isolation among Hmong teens and validate their experiences by providing a forum where they can express themselves through various forms of work. This includes and is not limited to addressing issues relevant to Hmong teens and potential mental health issues by providing coping strategies and/or resources.
- To provide the teen editors leadership opportunities, develop their skills in writing and designing, and to learn what it means to run a publication.
?xml:namespace>
- How old is HmoobTeen? HmoobTeen turned 10 years old in the summer of 2007.
?xml:namespace>
- How is HmoobTeen funded? HmoobTeen’s major funder is the MN Dept of Health. HmoobTeen is also funded by advertisers, subscribers and generous donors.
?xml:namespace>
- What do Editors do? Editors do almost everything for the magazine: interview, research and write articles, design, take pictures for the magazine and come up with ideas.
?xml:namespace>
?xml:namespace>
- How can I become an Editor? Editors are accepted once a year in December. Watch out for the call for Editors in the summer; it will have all the information you need to apply.
?xml:namespace>
?xml:namespace>
- I don’t want to submit anything to HmoobTeen, but I have a great story idea. HmoobTeen is always looking for stories, especially great stories. Simply talk to an Editor about your idea or who you want us to interview, and the Editor will bring that idea to HmoobTeen. Or, you can also email your ideas to teeneditors@hmong.org.
