Hmong Youth Pride (HYP)
Program Description
Hmong Youth Pride (HYP) is an after-school enrichment program that receives referrals from teachers and parents of children who demonstrate needing academic support, are displaying signs of social withdrawal, or are exhibiting signs of behavioral issues. HYP services are available at Jackson Elementary, Hmong International Academy, Phalen Lake Hmong Studies Magnet Elementary and Community School of Excellence for their students in grades 3-8 during the school year and at the HAP Arcade location during the summer.
The HYP program provides access to culturally matched adult mentors who provide twice weekly one-on-one homework assistance, cultural and drug prevention instruction, and assistance with life skills development. HYP also provides services to parents, which include: understanding youth, the public school system, and non-violent parenting techniques.
