FAQ – Adult Basic Education

What is ABE?

ABE stands for Adult Basic Education. Here at HAP we offer ESL (English as a Second Language) for adults.

What will I learn in the classes?

We focus on reading, writing, speaking and listening for low-levels (0-4). We do not offer GED or citizenship classes.

If you are interested in GED or citizenship, you can call the Adult Literacy Hotline 1-800-225-7323 FREE to find classes near you.

How many times a week, and when/where is ABE held?

Clients can attend up to 5 hours a day from either 9:00-2:00 or 10:00-3:00 (English, Math, Computer and Job Skills). Clients can attend just English and math from either 9:00-11:45 or 12:15-3:00. Classes are Monday-Friday.

We also offer evening ESL classes 6:00-8:00 and open computer lab from 4:30-6:00
