Special Refugee Employment ProgramsRefugee Employment Services (RES)

Helping refugees integrate into the workforce provides great returns in reducing or discontinuing reliance on public assistance, increasing earned wages and investing in our communities. In collaboration with Employment Action Center, Refugee Employment Services assist recently arrived refugees to obtain a first job as early as possible after arrival and during their first 5 years of residency. Once employed, RES can help refugee workers access additional community resources to help them develop a career advancement plan that will bring the refugee family closer to self-sufficiency.

RES Services may include:

  • Employment Readiness Class designed for individuals with limited English language skills (Mon-Thur)
  • Assistance with filling out job applications and creating a resume
  • Hmong and Karen interpreting assistance for staffing agency and/or the worksite managers as necessary
  • Job search and placement services, including referrals to job opportunities and accompanying clients to interviews

RES Eligibility Criteria:

  • Confirmed refugee status
  • Has lived in US for 5 years or less
  • Enrolled in MFIP or DWP Program
  • Refugee Social Services (RSS)

In collaboration with Employment Action Center, The Refugee Social Service Program assist recently arrived refugees to become engaged with community services and programs such as mental health services, child care services, youth after-school programs and/or community programs.

RSS Services may include:

  • Assistance to access community resources such as mental health, childcare, chemical health, community events and activities, based on comprehensive assessment and participant's family needs
  • Field trips and workshops to familiarize refugees with available programs, events and activities for children, youth and families
  • Connecting families to have the opportunity to form a network of support in their community through the Welcoming Circles

RSS Eligibility Criteria:

  • Confirmed refugee status
  • Lived in US for 5 years or less
